Description

This picture represents visually the occupied lands in Beleriand between 1100 Years of the Trees (Y.T.) up to the end of the First Age (F.A.), as he is told in The Silmarillion of J.R.R. Tolkien.

This picture is inspired by the History of Westeros, a delightful pixel art created by bI777
(bi777.deviantart.com/art/Histo…).
I planned to do something similar on a larger scale, but I was afraid by the huge task,
and the pixel art gave me the opportunity to draw what I had in mind.

Note : a similar pictural project exists for Second Age and Third Age and was created by Gandavien on the website www.alternatehistory.com : www.alternatehistory.com/forum…

I give here some references (XI="The War of The Jewels", S="The Silmarillion")
considering the number assigned to each land :

*1* Nevrast have never been invaded by the soldiers of Morgoth, due to the protection of Ulmo.
*3* After Nirnaeth Arnoediad, Hithlum was given to the Swarthy Men and the remainders of House of Hador was enslaved.
*4*  "Magor son of Aradan and many of the people passed
down Sirion into Beleriand and dwelt a while in the vales of the southern
slopes of Ered Wethrin." [S.138]
*5* After Nirnaeth Arnoediad, some of the Grey-elves of Mithrim dwelt in the caves of Androth, probably located in the
Mountains of Mithrim [tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Mounta….
*8* The west of Lothlann was occupied by the Riders of the Folk of Fëanor [XI.183].
*12* Unfortunately, the surface of the Gondolin land is not enough to contains all the expected colors :
obviously Turgon and his people (blue), some Sindar (light grey), then Maeglin (violet) and Tuor (pink).
*14* Bëor the Old lived with Finrod Felagund in the period 312-355.
Between Dagor Bragollach (455) and the death of Fingon in Taul-in-Gauroth (465)
Celegorm and Curufin settled in Nargothrond.
*16* The house of Haleth (Haladin) ends in the year 500 with the death of Manthor,
after the venue of Húrin (the father of Túrin) [XI.297]
*26* Since 1495 Y.T., Nan Dungortheb was occupied by giant spiders (the children of Ungoliant).
*32* After Dagor Bragollach, Thargelion was destroyed and Caranthir escaped to Amon Ereb [S.148].
Then, After the Fifth Battle, Caranthir escaped to mount Dolmed [XI.75]
bacause he have strong links with the Dwarves [XI.145].
He lived here probably until the attack of Dolmed by the Ents in 503 [S.240]
or his death in 506 in the Sack of Doriath [S.241].
*33* After the Firth Battle, some Laiquendi settled in Doriath, leaded by Ithilbor
(the father of Saeros/orgol).
*34* After the death of Eöl, the destiny of Nan Elmoth is unknown,
probably retroceded to Doriath.
*35* Estolad was a part of the lands of Amrod and Amras before the coming of men [S.138].
*37* The exact extension of the territory of Amrod and Amras is uncertain.
Amon Ereb, the Lonely Hill at the end of Ramdal, is the "last refuge of the Sons of Fëanor" [XI.185].
After the Dagor Bragollach (455), Amon Ereb was fortified and guarded by Caranthir, Amrod and Amras [S.140]
